Prayer for Liberation

Here is a responsive, congregational prayer for liberation from tyrants and despots in leadership. It references the Beatitudes of the Christ, as well as the Psalms.

God / Universe / Source: We know that we are in the midst of apocalypse, a great revealing of the shadow of humanity.
All creation groans (1).

We wait for liberation
From the rule of tyrants and despots,
From the burden of harmful policy,
From harassment and occupation by federal forces,
From economic exploitation and political lies,
From evil men who, until now, have gotten away with grave evil.

We want justice for all the children who’ve been harmed.
We want justice for all the people who have been terrorized.
We want justice for all who have been exploited and murdered.
We want justice for all who wait beneath the heel of unjust government.

While we wait
We work.
Putting our time, energy, and worldly resources toward the cause of justice.
Putting our prayers and intentions toward liberation for all.
Give us courage and creativity.
Sustain us with love, community, and miracles.

We trust that a reckoning is now here.
We trust in the goodness of God.
We trust that the poor in spirit
They that mourn,
The meek,
The seekers of righteousness,
The merciful,
The pure in heart,
And the peacemakers,
Will inherit, at last, heaven on earth (2).

Let the plans of the wicked be thwarted. (3)
Let the apathetic awaken.
Let those who are aligned with evil be removed from power and influence, and brought to divine justice.
Let those who are aligned with Love rise up.

Amen
