Prayer for Calling In a Better World

God/dess, Universe, Source, Heaven Within Us:
We take this moment to center ourselves within our courageous hearts;
Seat of love and connection, compassion and wisdom.
We are watching as so many aspects of our society and government, of what has been “normal,” fall apart,
As depths of corruption are revealed in apocalypse.*
We mourn for the sense of stability that has been lost,
And most especially for the human lives that have been lost or ruined, shrugged off by leadership as “collateral damage.”

But we turn our attention now to the New Earth that is being born into our midst,
To participating in New Creation.
We are calling forth the society we want:
One in which children are centered, protected, educated with compassion, and raised in love,
In which healthcare is free to all,
Poverty and desperation are no more because everyone’s basic needs are met,
Prisons are empty and repurposed for collective restoration,
And Humans live in harmony with nature.

We want leaders who walk humbly upon the earth,
Who are respected for their wisdom and discernment,
Who have a deep commitment to doing what is right and beneficial to all,
Who are truthful in word and deed,
Who are pure of heart and mind,
Whose primary value is love for humanity and for the planet.

We want our technologies to benefit humanity and our environment,
To complement life, not deter it.
We want an economy of reciprocity,
That creates abundance where there was once scarcity.
We want systems and processes that are aligned with truth,
That provide safety and help to even the most vulnerable, and reject injustice in all forms.

We are calling forth a world in which war is a forgotten concept
Because we are saturated in the truth of our Oneness, our connection to all,
And we know that to harm an individual is to harm the collective,
To harm the Self.

We leave behind greed, imperialism, dominance, control, and ego-based decisions
In favor of communal thriving, and heart-based wisdom.
We reject the constant conflict that comes with the ego’s need to prove, force, and destroy,
In favor of the peace that comes from wisdom and compassion, the heart’s specialties.

*feel free to pause here for Prayers of the people, or to add your own intentions)

Let there be light.
Let there be joy and celebration,
Healthy, thriving children,
Supported and resourced adults,
A counsel of wise leaders,
A planet bursting with abundance,
Health, well-being, and safety of mind and body,
Creativity, art, music, and movement. True progress.

This is the kind of world we want,
The world we are collectively midwifing.
No more of this exploitation and harm.
No more leaders who can’t be trusted.
We are singing and dancing a good, peaceful society into being,
Praying it to life.
May it be so.
May it be so.

Hello friends! This is the last litany I'll write in 2021! I'm sharing it now in case it might assist you in your plans for the next couple of weeks. I'll be going dark and resting from writing for a bit.

I have made this particular prayer public, so feel free to send it along to friends and colleagues. I also have available:

Litany for a New Year (from 2018)

Litany for New Year's Day (from 2016)

Thank you to all who have followed along this year, shared my prayers, jumped on my Patreon, and prayed along with me.

And to all you who are there in the everyday trenches of spiritual work and ministry, doing care and practicing presence: may you be blessed with wisdom, fresh energy and compassion, rest, and purpose. May every wound your soul sustained this past year be soothed and healed, and your confidence in the Commonwealth of Heaven strengthened.

God as we close another calendar year
And look toward a new one,
We remember that every day is a new day;
Not just New Year’s Day.

Every day we can choose fresh purpose (1),
Access fresh wisdom,
Practice gratitude for our gifts, blessings, and experiences,
Practice mercy and love toward ourselves and others (2).

Every day we can take an honest look at ourselves,
Assess our unhelpful habits and patterns,
Create new ones,
Ask for help.

Everyday we can shut out voices that tear us down,
And practice listening to the truth about ourselves:
We are beloved, accepted, encased in Divine Love.
We have access to everything we need (3).

We ask for strength in the coming year:
To continue growing in wisdom,
To continue our healing journey,
To continue our creative work,
To continue our self-care,
To continue awakening to truth and oneness,
To continue in generosity and serving our neighbors (4),
To continue the work of bringing heaven to earth.

Whatever happens this year, we know you are alive within us,
Your light is shared and burning in our hearts.
We know that life can be enjoyed (5)
And rest can be found.
We know each time our eyes open,
The mercies are new and the goodness is flowing (6).

Amen

Epiphany, Year B (Week 3): Litany for New Creation

This litany contains references to selections from the Lectionary texts for January 21, 2018 (Year B).

God, even now, in ways we can hardly comprehend
The old is passing away.
Your voice, the voice of Christ, speaks to us:
“The time is fulfilled
the kingdom of God has come near;
turn from evil, and believe in the good news." (1)

All around the world there is turmoil
There is suffering, hunger, and war.
Here in our midst there is upheaval:
In our government, society, and streets.
But we see the subtle ways in which you work:
New creation steadily appearing.

Help us, oh God, to pay attention
To the nearness of your Kingdom,
To the rhythms of your working,
To the newness of life around us,
To the opportunities in our midst,
To the mystery of Christ within us.

For the present form of this world is passing away. (2)
New Creation has already taken hold
And is working and growing behind the scenes,
Beyond the screen of what our eyes can see.

Trust in God at all times, O people;
Pour out your heart before God;
God is a refuge for us.
Power and steadfast love belong to God. (3)

Amen
